A popular and internationally award-winning mobile application of the Zagreb Tourist Board “Zagreb Be There” received some new Advent content, and the main star is Mr. Alojz, a friendly spirit of Zagreb’s Christmas. With the aid of this app, in a brand new route named Foodie Zagreb, Alojz takes visitors of Zagreb to places with the best traditional holiday foods in the city. Besides that, he visits events, socialize with people, knows where the best celebrations are, and records and publishes all the adventures via social networks. Thus, during the Advent period, he has taken over the Instagram profile of the Zagreb Tourist Board. “Alojz is Zagreb’s everywhere-guy for Advent”, said Nikola Žinić, one of the creators of the app.
The novelty of the application is the Christmas Heritage route which informs visitors with the tradition of celebrating Christmas in Zagreb. This route includes numerous sacred sites like the Cathedral and the Chapel of St. Dismas, as well as events such as the Christmas of old Zagreb, Festival of Christmas Cakes and Cookies or exhibition Advent in a Croatian Home. Route Advent Zagreb same as last year, shows visitors the interesting Advent locations in the city – Ice Park, Advent at Zrinjevac, Fuliranje and other. As before, app users can win a prize if they tag themselves on each location of a specific route with their smartphone, and the reward is Zagreb Be There cup for hot drinks.
Zagreb Be There is a mobile app of the Zagreb Tourist Board, which proposes visitors to Zagreb various thematic routes to tour the city with the help of their smartphones. Among them are some hidden, less famous attractions in the city, as well as the chance to win prizes.
Along with three new Advent routes, application offers six more, each of which presents Zagreb in a somewhat different way. On route Space Explorer are locations of all grounded planets of the solar system from art installations by Ivan Kožarić and Davor Preis. Hidden Spots reveals the last Upper town well, or abandoned cemetery at Jurjevska. On route Indie Zagreb there are, for example, The Museum of Broken Relationships or memorial plaque to Tomislav Gotovac in Zagreb, or I love you in Ilica. There are also routes Refreshing Zagreb, Classic Zagreb and Arty Zagreb – compiled by the famous Zagreb artists.
The application is free and available on Android and iPhone devices, and can be downloaded from microsite betherezagreb.com or via a QR code on leaflets which can be found in all major tourist spots in Zagreb. The application has already won several awards, including the prize for best digital tourism promotion in Europe (Tourism & Musical Festival, Paris, 2015) and for tourism innovation of the year (Days of Croatian Tourism, Opatija, 2015)
