Along with already known names – Nenad Bakić, Ante Vrban, Dina Levačić, Igor Barberić, Ivan Vidaković, Krešimir Dolenčić, Željka Fuchs, Nik Oroši, Igor Mikloušić, Damir Gobec – this week new speakers were announced for the tenth TEDxZagreb conference which will take place on September 29 at the Europa Cinema in Zagreb. The list of speakers who will share stories of their lives, ideas and achievements to promote development of the community is thus almost completed. And all this will take place under the #satisfaction sign.
Danijela Martinović is one of the most popular Croatian singers famous for her solo career, but also as a member of one of the most famous musical bands in this region. It is less known that, besides singing career, Danijela also writes poetry, and this year’s TEDxZagreb #satisfaction conference will be her first step into the new speaking dimension. Good ideas are also abundant with Hrvoje Balent, an entrepreneur from Zagreb who 20 years ago together with friends established the Algebra company for IT education, at the time when personal computers were a rarity. He believed that it was the future, and that knowledge about it is necessary to everyone. Today, two decades later, they are the leading private educational system in Croatia and the region, working on raising education standards every day. The information technology system is also the playfield for the nineteen-year-old “vunderkind” from Karlovac, who can boast that his products are available even on eBay. He is Albert Gajšak who has conquered the world and the CES fair from his parents’ garage, with the MAKERbuino console which users assemble, upgrade and develop independently.
Mario Kovač is a theater and film director known for his passion for quizzes. If you ask Maria he will say that theatre is his first love, but still he organizes and participates in dozens of pub quizzes, and is one of the few people who can boast of participating in a global quiz championship and his own TV show. And while Mario is conquering the “quiz” world, next two speakers daily confirm the primordial human desire for the “conquering” of heavenly heights. Robert Pečnik is a pioneer of base jumping in Croatia and one of the world’s best jumpers, who has jumped from a height of 2,000 meters in just a suit. Robert made a revolution with his invention of a free flight suit, and he says he is one of the few who “did not die in their own suit.” He’s a passionate lover of the heights, mountains and nature. He sells his suits around the world, even to royal families, and its little known that the suits with a “Croatian signature” were also used in the blockbuster “Lara Croft: Tomb Raider”. Emilio Menđušić, a bird fan, is known for his falconry center near Šibenik where he spends most of his time. His love for birds and the knowledge he conveys to others creates special pleasure for every visitor.
13 million followers on Facebook. Almost 80,000 Instagram followers and 200,000 subscribers on the YouTube channel. These numbers best describe Hashem Al-Ghaili, scientists who isn’t a scientist. By sharing his passion for technology and nature, Hashem is on a mission of enabling everyone to learn something scientific today on social networks, and that mission attracts tens of millions of fans. But the mission is an ongoing one. Aron Anderson, an adventurer for whom body limitations aren’t an obstacle to being the double world champion in one of the most famous humanitarian races in the world, the Wings For Life. Mountain peaks, river kayaking, scuba diving and swimming, and visits to all continents are his pleasures, and with them he enchants anyone who meets him.
