A1 Slovenija is a strong supporter of urban beekeeping as a member of the City of Ljubljana’s project Bee Path as well as a proud owner of four urban beehives, placed on their headquarters’ rooftop. This May – in the week before the World Bee Day – they helped one of the hardest-working animal species with another solution. Due to global warming’s effect on the flowering time, bees are faced with a lack of food supply in late summer. And as bees go hungry, so do we, since as much as a third of the world’s food supply depends on them.
To help bees in the city, Slovenska cesta, the heart of Ljubljana, became an urban garden of altogether 3,500 honey bee plants for a week. Pedestrians were encouraged to take one of the 12 sorts of plants to create their own bee forage oasis on a home balcony or garden and help the bees up until the fall.
