The idea about the SEMPL conference was born twenty years ago, from the need to educate media planners. In the last 20 years, it has not only grown from a niche, specialised seminar to an event that introduces the latest media-communication trends with world-renowned speakers, but has transformed itself into one of the most important conferences in the region. An attractive visual identity of the event was again created by Slovenian creative agency Futura DDB.
SEMPL, the most important regional conference on trends in marketing, media and communications, is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The event will be held on the 29th and 30th November 2018 in Grand Hotel Bernardin in Portorose, Slovenia, where organisers expect more than 1,200 media and communications experts from the Adriatic region.
Valerija Prevolšek, the President of SEMPL and Managing Director of Media Pool, announces that the 20th anniversary of the conference will be marked with carefully chosen speakers: “The programme is the crucial part of SEMPL, with which we delight our attendees every year and it is the main reason we have earned a reputation of one of the highest quality events in this part of Europe. Of course, we want to celebrate the 20th birthday not only symbolically, but with particular attention being paid to the programme.”
Petar Hinssen first confirmed speaker
The first confirmed speaker is a charismatic visionary who will give his speech for the first time in the Adriatic region. The Belgian-born Peter Hinssen regularly appears as a key speaker at the largest conferences and forums of tech giants, such as Google, Microsoft, and Apple. His latest book, The Day After Tomorrow, is ranked on the list of best business books of the last year.
Hinssen, who is an expert on technological trends and their effects on the future of organisations and business models, will talk about how to navigate in the world of rapid change. He will advise how to change existing business structures and thinking for success and growth in ecosystems that are emerging.
Mermaids as a symbol of harmony of form and content
The mermaid will seduce attendees of the 20th SEMPL; she is a pop cultural interpretation of mythological sirens who lured the sailors with their singing causing their ships to crash on the reefs. In the last 20 years, SEMPL has always been focused not only on form but especially on content as it had to float to the surface in the sea of numerous established marketing events.
“For a great comprehensive experience the form and content should work together. We can easily be seduced by beautiful form but without right content a good first impression quickly fades away,” Futura DDB explained this year’s visual identity of SEMPL, and added: “Unlike mythology, you will never crash on the reefs at SEMPL.”
Within the SEMPL conference, once again the Sempler awards will be presented to the greatest media successes in the region. Also, the fourth Media Manager of the Year will be selected, who will join the elite crowd of former holders of this award: Pavle Vrabec, Marko Kolbl and Petar Frankl.
