Athens will host the annual IPRA Golden World Awards for Excellence ceremony for the first time on 25 September. For the International Public Relations Association (IPRA), it is a return to the city where the Code of Athens was adopted in 1965, a document that helped shape the profession’s ethical principles around the world.
The ceremony will be held at the Grande Bretagne hotel, at the initiative and under the strategic coordination of V+O Group | SEC Newgate, a member of the global SEC Newgate network. The event is held under the auspices of the Hellenic Association of Advertising and Communication Agencies (EDEE) and will bring together representatives of agencies, companies, institutions and organisations from different parts of the world.
“The Greek capital has always held a special place in the heart of IPRA. Returning to the city associated with the Code of Athens, an important document in the development of ethics in global public relations, carries strong symbolism and deep meaning. It is wonderful to be here again,” said Philip Sheppard, Secretary General of IPRA.
The Golden World Awards for Excellence have been presented since 1990. Each year, an international jury evaluates approximately 500 entries submitted by agencies, companies, public institutions, non-governmental organisations and academic institutions. The awards recognise communications projects that combine strategy and creativity with effectiveness and measurable results.
Alongside awards in individual categories, the Grand Prix for Excellence is presented, while the Global Contribution Award recognises campaigns that contribute to achieving one or more of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
V+O Group | SEC Newgate has participated in the competition for 15 years and has won 22 awards across different categories, sectors and markets. Through its initiative to bring this year’s ceremony to Athens, the company also aims to open a discussion about the role of communications amid increasingly complex public debates and growing expectations of organisations and their leaders.
