Young artists Kristina Jovanović and Sandra Stojanović opened the exhibition #Identical with an interesting performance in which they tried to resolve the questions from the title, leaving it to the audience in the packed Parobrod to decide for themselves which are the real answers.
Kristina Jovanović, a graphic designer, and Sandra Stojanović, a visual artist and copywriter met working together in the creative team of McCann Belgrade. A series of candid photos that explore their (non)identicalness inspired them to create an art project that would dwell more deeply into the intriguing theme of human and artistic identity. Along with a series of photos, until 18 December visitors at UK Parobrod can also see a video of the performance, as well as a number of exhibits that give a different dimension to their “identicalness”.
The project has involved a number of artists, colleagues and friends, including photographer Branko Starčević and director Marko Pejović.
Identical is part of the creative platform Steamboating, devised and implemented for two years now by advertising agency McCann Belgrade and Parobrod, Institution of Culture of the Municipality Stari Grad Belgrade.
“Identical arose spontaneously, thanks to the colleagues who first began to notice the similarities and contrasts between Kristina and I,” Sandra Stojanović told Media Marketing after the opening of the exhibition. “We jumped on the proposal to use the last Steamboating this year for some kind of presentation of the project, and were already full of ideas on how to format and best present the materials that have accumulated over several months, particularly the documentary photographs taken by members of the creative team of McCann Belgrade. Thanks to the great support we’ve received from McCann Belgrade and, to our surprise, great interest in social networks, we were quite motivated to create a unique ambience at UK Parobrod and introduce visitors to an area in which the relativization of uniqueness facilitates the reassessment of the notion of identity. Did we succeed? Judge for yourself.”
