How Neymar inadvertently boosted KFC South Africa

By: Adnan Arnautlija

Over the last few days the entire internet is having a laugh with an ad for KFC South Africa, and all thanks to Brazil’s star Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior. Facebook feeds are littered with posts about the World Cup since it began, but after the Brazil v. Mexico match, one ad has been popping up all over the place, with the captions “KFC trolling Neymar” or something of that sort. And it’s not hard to see why, the antics Neymar pulled during that match strikingly resemble those of the actor in the video.

However, the ad, created by Ogilvy Cape Town and directed by Karien Cherry from Giant Films, titled “Keep Rolling”, was created much before the actual match that people are referring to, which makes it in our book even more impressive.

Namely, the creatives behind the ad started from the facts that eyes of the entire world would be glued to the world cup, and since the sport is known to have infamous dives and Oscar-winning acting performances of injuries by players, there was bound to be a dive that will make people instantly think of the ad.

And the dive came from no other but one of the most famous footballers of the world. Thanks to Neymar, the ad went truly global and viral, and the spot on the official KFC channel as of this moment has over 2 million views! If we add to that the reposts of the video, fan made memes, and global media attention, it’s reach is absolutely massive.

KFC, you should really come up with some way to thank Neymar for this nudge!
