YouTube issued its Rewind video recently, focusing on the positive and avoiding to treat the unpleasantries and tragedies that the 2017 brought, but now the parent company Google in it’s „Year in Search“ video tackles those issues head on..
The film creates an emotional crescendo as it highlights the year’s most popular searches. First, there’s sadness and despair as documentary-style images illustrate queries like “How do wildfires start,” “How much will the wall cost,” “How do hurricanes form?” and “How to help flood victims … refugees… Puerto Rico… Mexico…Las Vegas.” But as to be expected, things start to take an uplifting turn midway through as the music picks up and we see images of protests, marches, French President Emmanuel Macron’s win, the eclipse, NFL protests, the #MeToo movement and more. Even Trump briefly jumps in.
The film ends on hopeful note when the final query hits the screen–“How to move forward,” followed by the familiar tag, “Search on.”
72andSunny L.A. and Google Brand Studio conceived the video, while the production was handled by 72’s production arm Hecho en 72.
