Finalist for Communicator of the Year: Vojko V – diagnostician of Croatia’s state of mind

The prestigious title of Communicator of the Year last year went to Ante Mrvica, and the year before to Croatia’s Mountain Rescue Service

The Croatian Association of Public Relations began to reveal the names of the finalists for the Communicator of the Year. One of the five nominees is musician Vojko V.

The title of Communicator of the Year is awarded as part of the Grand PRix awards, and is given to a person or group who are not professionally engaged in communication business, but has excelled with great communication in the previous year.

This prestigious title last year went to Ante Mrvica, and a year ago to the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service.

“I was surprised with the nomination for Communicator of the Year, mostly because majority of my acquaintances and close friends think that I am not a communicative person. In music, I don’t consider myself as communicating at all, at least not knowingly. Namely, I just try to do the most entertaining text and music I can. In interviews, I try to be as sincere and concise as possible,” said Vojko V of the nomination.

Jury of the 12th Grand PRix pointed out that what qualifies Vojko V for the Communicator of the Year is the auto-ironic voice with which he has managed to concisely and elaborately articulate some of the main ailments of the Croatian post-transitional society in his songs.

“It is possible that we, as a people, are ready to hear the things that hurt, if they are presented in a witty and seemingly carefree way, so Vojko’s acceptance by the wider public is a sign that we are prepared to face our own shortcomings, and this is an unavoidable step towards improving the nation. Zovi čovika, Kako to? and Ne može! songs in a short time became the slogans for diagnosing the Croatian state of mind,” said Maja Gradišar Perotić, president of the jury of the 12th Grand PRix.

Vojko V believes that for quality public communication, the most important thing is the attitude and style that will be recognizable to people. In his recognizable style he then adds: “And at least a little bit of content, if possible.”

Who will become the Communicator of the Year will be revealed at the Grand PRix award ceremony, in Zagreb on Wednesday, March 13, 2019.
