Etsy has unveiled its 2025 holiday campaign, highlighting the role of authentic human connection during the festive season. The campaign emphasizes the value of meaningful interactions and the impact of thoughtful gifting. It centers on the idea that gifts can convey understanding and emotional depth when they reflect the recipient’s individuality. The messaging suggests that a considered present communicates, “I get you” beyond its material value.
The campaign’s storytelling is set within a school environment, depicting a community where personal quirks are embraced, acts of kindness matter, and everyone has a story worth acknowledging. This approach is inspired by the term “sonder,” which refers to the awareness that each person’s life is as complex and significant as one’s own.
Etsy’s 2025 holiday campaign builds on last year’s narrative of Waldo, an emblem of someone often searched for but rarely truly seen, by shifting the spotlight toward the everyday individuals who surround us. Through a series of three interconnected stories, the campaign underscores the idea that truly recognizing and acknowledging others is, in itself, a powerful and meaningful gift, one that Etsy asserts can be beautifully expressed through a thoughtful, personalized present.
The first story, “Drummer Boy,” reframes a young boy’s constant tapping, once perceived as a classroom distraction, as a budding talent. When his teacher surprises him with personalized drumsticks and a handmade pouch, the gesture becomes a moment of validation, reinforcing the value of seeing potential where others might see nuisance.
In “Crossing Guard,” the narrative honors the quiet dedication of a woman who shepherds children safely across the street every day. Her consistent care, often overlooked, is acknowledged through a custom-made green sweater for her loyal dog, Bruce, a small but heartfelt act of gratitude from her community.
The third part, “Coach,” centers on a mentor known for his encouraging rallying cry, “Chins up!” His unwavering positivity is reciprocated when he receives a personalized hat that reflects the spirit he brings to his team.
“Holiday advertising largely relies on overblown ‘magic’ and shimmery spectacle. But Etsy is a brand founded in one-on-one human interactions around very special items,” Orchard executive creative director Heather Larimer said in a statement. “Our holiday campaign needed to reflect Etsy’s thoughtful essence in a noisy time of year. We created a campaign that felt real and human-scale rooted in simple, honest storytelling.”
