As the boundaries between technology, entertainment and marketing continue to disappear, companies capable of building their own content ecosystems today hold a much broader influence than traditional media or platform presence alone. It is precisely within this space between technology, culture and premium storytelling that Apple has, in recent years, built one of the most influential entertainment platforms on the global market.
For that reason, the organisation Cannes Lions announced that Eddy Cue, Senior Vice President of Services and Health at Apple, will receive the Entertainment Person of the Year 2026 award.
The award is presented to individuals whose work has redefined the way entertainment influences marketing, communications and contemporary culture, with previous recipients including Ted Sarandos of Netflix and Ynon Kreiz of Mattel.
At Apple, Cue oversees a broad portfolio of services that includes Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple Books, Apple News, Fitness+, Apple Pay, Apple Maps, iCloud and the company’s other creative and productivity platforms. A particularly important part of his work relates to the development of the Apple TV+ platform, which in just over six years has become one of the industry’s most awarded streaming services. Under his leadership, Apple TV+ has held the top position for the highest critically rated slate of original programming among all streaming services for five consecutive years.
According to figures released by the festival organisers, Apple’s content has so far earned more than 800 awards and over 3,500 nominations across the global entertainment industry. At the same time, the company has in recent years significantly expanded its sports business through exclusive partnerships with Formula 1, Major League Soccer and the Friday Night Baseball project, further connecting entertainment, live sports and streaming experiences.
Simon Cook, CEO of LIONS, said that Eddy Cue has spent years pushing the boundaries of entertainment and storytelling through the development of platforms and experiences that have changed the way audiences engage with culture and content. “Under his leadership, Apple has not only produced world-class content but has also shaped the future of entertainment through innovation, creativity and an unwavering commitment to quality,” Cook added.
The recognition comes just one year after Apple was named Creative Marketer of the Year at the festival, an honour awarded to companies with a long-standing continuity of Lion-winning campaigns and culturally relevant creative work.
Among the company’s most awarded projects in recent years are the campaigns Shot on iPhone, Relax: Tractor, The Underdogs: Swiped Mac, TED LASSO: Fake Team. Real Partners. and Fuzzy Feelings.
During the festival, Eddy Cue will hold a keynote conversation with legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer on June 22 at the Lumière Theatre, after which he will officially receive the award during the festival’s evening awards ceremony.
