Dr. Jelena Trivan was born in 1973 and began her academic journey at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade, where she earned both her undergraduate and doctoral degrees. She started her career as a literature teacher at the First Kragujevac Gymnasium, and from 2000 to 2006, she served as Deputy Minister in the Ministry for Human and Minority Rights of the Republic of Serbia.
During her tenure as Deputy Minister, she led the Negotiation Team of the State Union of Serbia and Montenegro in concluding agreements on national minorities with neighboring countries, as well as readmission agreements with European Union member states.
She was the Co-Chair of intergovernmental commissions for the protection of national minorities with Croatia, Hungary, and Romania, and led the drafting teams for the Law on National Minorities and the Law on National Minority Councils.
Jelena was also a long-time representative of Serbia in the Council of Europe’s Human Rights Committee, where she worked on monitoring human rights across Europe. In recognition of her outstanding contributions, she received the prestigious “Man of the Year” award in 2011.
From 2007 to 2014, she served as a Member of Parliament in the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, where she chaired the Committee for Culture and Information and was active in the Committee for European Integration and the Interparliamentary Delegation between the European Parliament and the Serbian National Assembly. She also chaired the Friendship Group with the Netherlands.
Jelena was a member of the RTS Program Board from 2013, and in 2017, she was recognized by the Serbian Chamber of Commerce as Manager of the Year. A year later, she won the prestigious “Belgrade Victor” award for her accomplishments in the business sector.
From 2015, Jelena served as the Director of the Public Enterprise “Official Gazette,” and in 2018, she became Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of the Film Center of Serbia.
Her role in the business world became even more prominent in 2021 when she was appointed General Director of M:tel a.d. Banja Luka. Her commitment to advancing social and business standards toward building a better society is also reflected in her membership in the UNICEF Business Advisory Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
