The fourth edition of the Days of Communications, Croatia’s national advertising festival, will be held 14 to 17 of April in Hotel Lone, Rovinj, organized by Croatian Association of Communication Agencies – HURA and IAB Croatia. This year’s Days of Communication offer a rich program that includes world renowned speakers, presentation of current global trends, discovering the secrets of the most successful communication campaigns and numerous discussions, workshops and competitions. A special novelty at this year’s Days of Communication is the platform “Export Stage”, where an investor and entrepreneur Nenad Bakić will talk with representatives of the Croatian creative industries who managed to export their products and services outside the Croatian borders.
“This year, in addition to top-level international speakers, who made the Days of Communication regionally recognized, we wanted to point out the impact that the creative industries have on the Croatian economy, as well as their strong export potential. A study conducted by the Institute of Economics showed that the cultural and creative industries, which include the industry of advertising and marketing communications, generate 2.3 percent of Croatian GDP. This sector of economy is extremely resistant to the economic crisis and employs more than 42,000 people or 3% of total employment in the country. The survey we conducted among members of HURA showed that 91% of our members are already exporting their services and products. In view of that information, advertising industry shows great potential to become a powerful export product and that should certainly be supported,” said Davor Bruketa, Chairman of HURA and co-organizer of Days of Communication.
At Days of Communication, for the first time there will be a competition for young agency professionals called “Young Lions”, which is part of a global competition under the Cannes Lions festival. “This competition is a unique opportunity for young creatives under 30 years of age to prove themselves on a national and potentially global level. Their task is that, within 24 hours, they devise campaigns in the print, cyber and design categories, or 48 hours for film category. The best of the four winning teams will be rewarded with a trip to Cannes Lions 2016. Campaigns are created for non-profit, humanitarian or civil society organizations, for which the produced materials will be provided for use free of charge, which is a great added value to this project,” said Jan Jilek, President of the IAB, co-organizer of the festival.
Participants at Days of Communication will be treated with lectures by leading communications professionals who come from the world-renowned festivals Cannes Lions and Eurobest. Among the speakers, one of those who stand out is the Yousef Tuqan Tuqan, one of the most experienced and most respected tech entrepreneurs of the Middle East and North Africa. At his lecture, “Arabs Be Like – Guide to Modern Middle East”, he will provide in-depth look at the life of the modern Arabs, and how regional and global brands succeed or fail to connect with their audience. Tom Theys, executive vice president for global strategy at agency FBC and a leading strategist in marketing industry today, at his lecture, “Changing behavior is the new black (and gold)”, will show that the secret of success of creative and effective campaigns is in changing the consumer behavior. There is also Rogier Vijverberg, executive creative director and co-founder of the international agency SuperHeroes, whose main mission is to save the world from annoying advertisements. He’s an award-winning digital doyen who has worked for major global brands such as LG, Diesel, Converse, ASUS and Coca Cola. At Days of Communication, he will talk about technological ideas that save the world from boredom and add humanity to innovation.
During the Days of Communication, awards of industry competitions Effie, IdeaX and Mixx will also be held. Applications for the Effie competition, which rewards agencies, advertisers and campaigns that have achieved exceptional market success based on performance and strategic consideration of communication, have already been opened and last until 3 March 2016. Effie jury is chaired this year by Kristijan Gregorić, executive director of marketing and development at Franck. IdeaX, national competition in creativity, again this year invited all domestic creatives and agencies to test their strengths and demonstrate their creative and production potential and to present themselves to potential clients. Applications are open until 25 March 2016, and the jury is chaired by Siniša Waldinger, creative director of Bruketa&Žinić OM. Mixx competition that rewards the best work in online media is open to 13 March 2016, and the jury is chaired by Vladimir Končar, from the agency Studio Revolution.
Days of Communication 2016 is expected to gather more than 1,500 participants from Croatia and the region, for whom organizers have prepared a multitude of accompanying events such as concerts, exhibitions and many other opportunities for informal gatherings. This year, all interested students under 26 years of age will receive free admission upon presentation of their student books.
