Why do we forget some presentations just minutes after they end, while others stay with us for years? Why do certain stories inspire people to take action, while others remain nothing more than a sequence of information?
Thousands of companies, leaders, and communication professionals around the world have spent recent years searching for answers to these questions, and one of the people who has built an entire career around them is coming to Sarajevo. David JP Phillips, internationally recognized speaker and author known for connecting neuroscience, psychology, and communication, will be one of the keynote speakers at this year’s Branding Conference.
His appearance represents one of the most significant guest speaker engagements on the regional marketing scene in recent years. Today, David JP Phillips’ lectures are used as a reference by companies such as Google, Microsoft, and Oracle, while his TEDx talks have accumulated millions of views.
Unlike many speakers who approach communication through advice and best-practice examples, Phillips bases his work on understanding how the human brain responds to information, emotions, and stories. He is particularly known for his lecture The Magical Science of Storytelling, in which he explains how narratives influence chemical processes in the brain and why a well-crafted story leaves a stronger impact than facts presented without context.
His other well-known presentation, How To Avoid Death By PowerPoint, has for years been among the most-watched resources dedicated to presentation skills and business communication.
He brings more than 25 years of professional experience and over 6,000 presentations delivered across 32 countries. It is precisely this combination of scientific approach and practical application that has made him one of the most sought-after speakers among conference organizers, companies, and business leaders today.
The theme of this year’s Branding Conference, which will take place on September 18 at Sarajevo’s Zetra under the slogan Brand New Control, naturally aligns with the field Phillips has been exploring for years. In an environment marked by information overload, fragmented attention, and growing demands for authentic communication, understanding how people listen, remember, and trust has become more important than the reach of the message itself.
The conference is organized by Via Media, which has been bringing relevant names from the fields of marketing, communications, the creative industry, and business to Sarajevo for years. This year’s edition has now added a speaker whose work has long extended beyond the boundaries of the marketing industry and into the areas of leadership, education, and organizational culture.
