One of the most recognizable brands in the world for the first time developed its own typeface. The professional public, at least for the time being, is not thrilled by the TCCC Unity (The Coca-Cola Company Unity) font however.
As James Sommerville, chair of the global design department at Coca-Cola, wrote in the official presentation, the typeface combines the elements of Coca-Cola’s past and the American modernist legacy.
Coca-Cola is not the only one who has presented their own typeface in the last couple of months. Among others, IBM and YouTube also made similar steps. The new Coca-Cola typeface should be part of their new branding strategy.
