Burger King is scrapping its plastic toys in its South African restaurants and replacing them with an AR game named Defend the King.
Consumers need to download the game app on Android or iOS and then when they buy a Junior Meal they need to open the application and press play. The users camera will be activated after which they can scan the game marker in the restaurant.
“Moving away from toys is an initiative from Burger King to cut down on plastic that will end up in a landfill by finding a solution that is kinder to the environment,” said Ezelna Jones, head of marketing at Burger King South Africa, according to Warc.
“We also live in a digital age so … we developed a game that’s engaging and interactive,” she added.
During the game users need to defend the king by avoiding mines and robots.
