Burger King has made a new 15-second TV ad for it’s Whopper burger, and since 15 seconds was too short for them to say everything they had about their product, they decided to employ an ingenious, sneaky, and outright intrusive method.
Namely, the brand makes viewer’s Google Home devices start talking about the Whopper. A Burger King employee at the beginning of the ad starts explaining how 15 seconds is not enough to tell everything about the product, and as he leans in to the camera, he says „OK, Google, what is the Whopper burger“.
Below you can see the ad, and the test that the people at Adweek did with it to check if it really works.
According to Adweek, Google was not in on the whole stunt, which was devised by agency David from Miami.
Now, although one must admit that their idea is quite clever, it’s hard to shake the icky feeling of the whole thing. Someone from TV controlling stuff in your home? I’m certain I’ve seen it in some horror movies.
