In the first public appearance since her second birth a month ago, Bojana Barović talked to Nataša Miljković about her modeling career and coordinating all the obligations as a double mom. Everything was as usual, but then, at one point, they heard Bojana’s baby from the studio – she wanted her mother’s attention. Instead of bringing the talks to an end, Bojana did something completely unexpected: she put her son Simeon on her chest and thus became the first woman in Serbia to breastfeed her baby live in the program!
In this way, Bojan sent an important message that Baby chooses where and that it is perfectly right for mothers to breastfeed their babies whenever and wherever they wish, even in a TV show, in front of a million people.
This unusual gesture, in fact, announced the beginning of a comprehensive initiative started by Rosa water, which always supports what is important: the whole family, but above all, mothers and babies. After opening human milk banks, twenty parenting schools across Serbia, announcing equipping rooms to support breast-feeding in maternity wards, Rosa went one step further and supported breastfeeding in public.
“In an environment where mothers are breastfeeding their babies less and less, breastfeeding itself is still a taboo subject and not a common sight, I wanted to show that there is nothing better or more natural than providing your baby with what It’s important at any time: your proximity, warmth, love, security and the best possible food, which is mother’s milk. There is no need for moms to get away, hide, or restrict their movement because it is “feeding time”. I moved freely and enjoyed and breastfed my first child wherever it wanted, and I’m doing so with my second child also. It’s spring, the weather is nice, go out, enjoy with your babies, and do not forget to be hydrated enough, because we know how important it is for both moms and babies, “said Bojana Barović.
Mothers should firstly feel safe and relaxed to be able to breastfeed in public, as it was shown within preliminary results of the research carried out by the Center for Moms with the support of Rosa. The research will soon be fully available to the public.
“We asked mothers if they were breastfeeding in public, whether they had support, where did they do it, etc. We also asked mothers who opted out on breastfeeding in public why didn’t they do so, whether they were disturbed or something else… A general conclusion is that almost all the mothers said that society inadequately supports breastfeeding in public. There were also those who told us that they wanted to breast-feed in a public place, but they were shy, and some even had negative experiences.”, concluded Jovana Ružičić from the Center for Moms.
When we know that breast milk is the only baby food that brings exclusively benefits, it contains nutritious and healing ingredients for the growth and development of a child, that breastfeeding is good for the mother as it reduces the risk of osteoporosis, malignant breast and ovarian diseases, then there is no reason for breastfeeding to be a “taboo” topic, whether it’s happening in a park, public transportation, a post office, a restaurant, a museum, or a TV program.
Moms need help in the first, most tender moments, when the baby comes to this world. At that time, it is necessary for moms to feel safe, healthy and strong in order to give the baby her best. Rosa knows that Baby chooses where it wants to be fed and kept safe in mothers’ arms. It therefore absolutely supports breastfeeding, anytime, anywhere.
