Organ donation group Dying To Live has opted for a humorous, yet for many quite insulting and insensitive approach in their new campaign to raise awareness of the importance of organ donations.
The ad depicts Jesus’ crucifixion scene with two Roman soldiers asking Jesus if he would like to donate his organs, reminding of “what a miracle it is” to save lives in this way, and asking him to go online to register as an organ donor.
The ad was criticized by the public and the leaders of religious communities in Australia, including the Anglican Bishop of South Sydney Micheal Stead, who did however recognize that the ad uses the self-sacrificial example of Jesus to communicate an important message.
National watchdog Ad Standards is considering banning the ad from TV after receiving a number of complaints.
