Controversial lingerie brand Honey Birdette has launched a new christmas campaign, featuring the copy „Sorry kids, we gave Santa the night off“ and a very explicit video accompanied by hyper-sexualized print ads which many parents in Australia are slamming as highly inappropriate.
The brand is no stranger to controversy, as their marketing efforts are asoften criticized for objectifying and sexualizing women, but this time the brand brought a beloved kids character into the mix, which stirred many parents to launch a petition to ban „Honey Birdette’s porn-style adverts“.
The petition has been signed by over 50,000 people in a very short time, and the main issue parents have with the ads is that they are displayed in shopping malls where kids are exposed to the images. One parent thus said „ The innocence of young children is one of the most precious things in life. These images and the company behind them, robs kids of their innocence.“
