Electric cars have changed many aspects of the driving experience, but they have also created a communication challenge for performance brands: how do you talk about excitement when the sound of the engine that announced it for decades disappears? Audi does not try to bring that noise back in its new campaign. On the contrary, it uses the absence of sound as an advantage.
When darkness falls over Silverstone, four e-tron models head towards a track they should not, at least according to the rules of the night shift, be entering. A security guard, a dog and a mechanic who is still working stand in their way, but the silence of the electric motors allows them to slip past every obstacle unnoticed.
That is how After Dark begins, a new 90-second film created for Audi UK by BBH London. What at first looks like a little nighttime mischief actually leads to a much bigger story the brand wants to tell about its electric range.
The destination of the four cars is no coincidence. At the end of their mission is the Silverstone starting grid.
For Audi, returning to the race track is a way of connecting the e-tron models with the heritage from which some of the technologies now found in road cars originated. During the nighttime mission, each model behaves differently, while the choreography uses instant acceleration, the precision of the quattro system and intelligent braking as part of the action itself, rather than separating them out as traditional demonstrations of product features.
The film therefore tries less to explain what an electric Audi can do and more to show what kind of character it should have.
That connection between today’s electric range and motorsport also takes on a much more literal form. Among the modern e-trons, the Audi R18 e-tron quattro makes a brief appearance, a hybrid racing car that won the 24 Hours of Le Mans three years in a row, from 2012 to 2014. Its cameo serves as a reminder that electrification in the world of Audi did not begin with the arrival of the current generation of road-going EV models.
The campaign therefore brings the focus back to Vorsprung durch Technik, the philosophy through which the brand has long connected advances in design and engineering with performance. Instead of presenting e-tron as a new chapter that should be separated from the rest of the brand’s history, After Dark attempts to place it directly within its continuation.
There was no need to build a set for the location. The film was shot at the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit, where Audi is the official automotive partner, and was directed by Elliott Power through production company Love Song.
The first screening of the 90-second film was reserved for the first commercial break of the match that opened the 2026/2027 Premier League season. Television, cinema, video-on-demand, social media and digital channels follow, alongside dedicated shorter films focused on individual models. The campaign will run in the UK throughout 2026 and 2027.
And when the four e-trons finally reach the starting line, the film ends before the race even begins. For this story, it is enough that they have found their way back to the track.
