At the 35th Creative Mornings, Aljoša Bagola presented his life story. It begins in his native town of Goričko, on the family estate (in his grandfather’s schnapps plant) where he was introduced to hard work as a child. While growing up in this domestic setting, two things came in useful: the aforementioned readiness for hours of hard work and the fact that being a “peasant” is not always bad. Of course, he did not forget to mention the slogan he uses in his private and business life: “Don’t let anyone s **t on your head.”
In the second part of the lecture he touched upon advertising and the advertising industries, in which he underlined the so-called creative monopolies (Madison Avenue, then Hollywood and, finally, Silicon Valley and the revenge of the geeks), the meeting room syndrome (the conflict that occurs when clients and consumers don’t think the same way) and the importance of trends. He thinks trends are “some kind of mass comparisons and recommendations for how not to make mistakes” (hint: if you guys want to dress in line with the trends, just google “David Beckham” and follow his example). This was followed by a brief presentation of his works, which can be viewed on his YouTube channel.
For the end, he had prepared three quotes, which he sticks to in his life and work:
- “Here we are now, entertain us.”, by Nirvana’s Kurt Cobain,
- “Knowledge speaks, wisdom listens.” by guitarist Jimi Hendrix,
- “If you don’t make bold moves, you don’t get f**king anywhere.” by Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards.
