The book The Best of Adriatic Creative Directors, by Ekrem Dupanović, in just ten days sold in over 500 copies and is still going well (you can order it here). Second edition is in preparation, with a circulation of 1,500 copies, which in mid-February should be distributed to students who are studying to work in advertising across the region.
The Best of Adriatic Creative Directors features the stories of the 26 most successful creative directors in the region, and 130 of their best campaigns.
Today we publish the first comments on the book, sent by some of the creative directors who are featured in the book.
Aljoša Bagola, Executive Creative Director, Pristop, Slovenia:
When Ekrem, with his characteristic energy and enthusiasm, presented me the idea of this book, I didn’t even imagine it would be such a monumental product. Knowing that legendary Žare Kerin is at the helm of design, and that Ekrem’s editorial vision and knowledge of our industry are among the best in the region, of course I expected a high standard from them. But when I got the book in my hands at the promotion in Zagreb, and began to flip through it, it was a truly remarkable experience. Therefore, congratulations to Ekrem and Žare. I think that all of us, creative directors presented in the book, are grateful for this unprecedented feature – and, of course, proud.
Davor Bruketa, Creative Director, Bruketa&Žinić, Croatia:
Ekrem, you did a great job. I never believed that there is such a capacity in the region that would deliver such a project so professionally, both in terms of organization and financing.
Svetlana Ćopić, Creative Director, Scholz & Friends, Serbia
The book is a whopper! One just couldn’t believe there’s a thing like this. Thank you for investing your personal effort and work (and quite a bit of nerves I believe) to perpetuate a generation and make a cross-section of creative scene of the Yugoslav Adria region.
Not only am I delighted to be present in such a book (it kind of explained to me personally what exactly I did over the last 15 years), but I also like the subjective flare to it – the text about me is quite warm, written with affection of someone who knows me since I literally made my first steps in this business. And thank you for that especially – thank you for testifying my professional maturing, as well as maturing of many of my colleagues from the book, for following, recording and supporting our success and wholeheartedly rooting for us, and for never giving up on this rooting.
Bojan Hadžihalilović, Creative Director, Fabrika, Bosnia and Herzegovina:
A small step for Ekrem – a huge leap for Advertising in the Balkans. It is a great honor to be among all these colleagues, creative from the region of our common former homeland. I believe this is just a beginning of similar editions and projects that we can expect from Ekrem’s team.
Creatives of all countries, unite!
Damir Ciglar, Director, Imago Ogilvy, Croatia:
Ekrem’s work and role on the advertising scene in the region, as well as his Media Marketing project, can be considered a part of enlightenment. And with the book, The Best of Adriatic Creative Directors, he has elevated that role to the encyclopedic level. This small encyclopedia of active creatives and their works simply demands a sequel.
Igor Mladinović, Creative Director, Imago Ogilvy, Croatia:
The Best of Adriatic Creative Directors is written with spirit, designed with style and made with heart… it’s a book that has long been missing in this part of the world.
Blaž Vuk, Creative Director, Pristop, Slovenia:
As far as I’m concerned, I’m really proud to be included in the company of these brilliant people.
As far as the content is concerned, this book should reach the hands of every student of advertising in the Balkans, because they will never get such real-life experience anywhere else.
As far as the looks are concerned, the book is phenomenal – exactly what we expected from Žare.
There are two more things we could do: a digital version would be great, which would truly be an encyclopedia of this time and space, and perhaps there could be a VIP VIP version of the book in hard cover.
Thank you Ekrem once again for gathering us for promotion in Zagreb, in that truly friendly atmosphere. We could do it more often.
Sean Poropat, Creative Director, Studio Sonda, Croatia:
This book is an important document on one segment of what is being done in this part of the world. I’m happy to hear the announcement that the series will continue with books on the best art directors, photographers, etc … etc …
Jelena Fiškuš, Creative Director, Studio Sonda, Croatia:
I’m glad to be part of this crew of selected creatives, although perhaps some are missing, and I can’t wait to read the stories of my colleagues and examine their work in more detail. And I’m proud of the truly motivating dedication that the author wrote for me.
Nebojša Krivokuća, Creative Director, Communis, Serbia:
This book is proof that great works – be it a book or ad campaign – require a lot of love and even more hard work. This book is not only big in format and weight, but also in the attention and love that Ekrem, Žare, Marjan, Amir, Adnan, Žiga and other team members invested in each page.
Congratulations to the whole team, and a deep bow of gratitude for gathering us all together and bringing us closer to each other in this way.
Vanja Blumenšajn, Creative Director, Señor, Croatia:
One can always argue about choices – personally, I perhaps regret that some colleagues are not there – but unlike those who talk a lot, here’s evidence that something should also be done. This book will certainly be and remain a record of a time in an industry, and of the people who created and left their mark in it. Thank you for that.
Ivana Zeković, Creative Director, Saatchi&Saatchi, Serbia:
The book is top notch, and flawlessly executed. As its very title suggests – the best!
Žarko Veljković, Creative Director, Saatchi&Saatchi, Serbia:
I had the honor to receive the book personally from Ekrem, so the event itself was a bit festive. Thanks again. The book is excellent and I hope that it will live to see complemented issues, because I think there are three or four people missing, who deserve to be in it. Now, perhaps, finally my mother will find out what I actually do.
