330 MILLION PEOPLE CONNECTED WITH SMBS VIA FACEBOOK MESSENGER FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 2017
Facebook Messenger and other messaging applications aren’t just for communicating with friends and family anymore.
The social network said in a Newsroom post that 63 percent of respondents to a Nielsen survey said their messaging with businesses increased over the past two years, while 67 percent expect to message businesses even more in the next two years.
Facebook added that in 2017 alone, more than 330 million people connected with a small or midsized business via Messenger for the first time.
Citing its recently released The Art of Communication: Messages That Matter study, Facebook said Messenger is the only messaging app used by more than one-half of the population across all age groups, and 58 percent of people who use Messenger do so every day.
FACEBOOK ASKS USERS TO SEND NUDES – NOT REALLY
Facebook teamed up with the Australian government to trial an anti-revenge porn measure in November. People can now send explicit photos of themselves to Facebook via Messenger. Facebook then uses AI and photo-recognition technology to create a digital fingerprint of that photo, without the platform storing the photo itself. If someone (for example, an abusive partner or hacker) then attempts to post that photo to Messenger, Facebook or Instagram, the platform will block the upload.
It needs to be noted that this ‘innovation’ isn’t really good enough yet. Days after the announcement, Facebook added that pictures are reviewed by humans in the first instance; plus the system can only block the exact image submitted, rather than blocking all instances of non-consensual intimate images. BATTERED HONDA ACCORD’S SLEEK, HOMEMADE COMMERCIAL PAYS OFF AS CAR MARKETPLACE OFFERS $20,000
The juxtaposition of seeing a worn-out, used car star in its own well-crafted auto ad has helped a couple get rid of their old Honda after the listing went viral.
Early in November, California-based filmmaker Max Lanman utilized his skills to create a stunning ad for his girlfriend’s battered 1996 Honda Accord. Little ‘Greenie’ was showcased with drone footage panning over distant vistas and the road-bound glory shots that define the ad genre.
In a wave of nuanced marketing, car marketplace CarMax has swept in to offer $20,000 for the car. Not bad for a vehicle worth $499 and with 141,000 miles on the clock.
The couple have accepted the offer from the used car marketplace although it has noted that it is offering a princely sum for some of the miscellaneous items from the ad too.
CarMax promises there is more to come from the stunt. It may well get its money’s worth and utilise Lanman’s film making prowess in future.
