PHD STUDIES IN COMMUNICOLOGY HAVE ISSUED A CALL FOR FUTURE STUDENTS
PhD studies at the Josip Juraj Strossmayer University of Osijek, in cooperation with the University of Dubrovnik, are launching a contest for the enrolment of the fifth generation of PhD students at the University’s postgraduate interdisciplinary doctoral program in Communicology. It is the only doctoral study in Communicology in Croatia, after which students acquire the academic degree of the doctor of science and the competence for independent research in science, fieldwork and this branch of studies.
Postgraduate Doctoral Program in Communicology lasts three years (six semesters) and is intended for anyone who wants to acquire the highest theoretical knowledge in the field of public communication in public institutions, the economy, the media, politics, culture and numerous other forms of social and public action.
Classes at the PhD program are conducted in Zagreb, at the Croatian Catholic University.

HDD: EXHIBITION BY LANA GRAHEK (9 February – 22 February)
Tonight, Friday 9 February, at 20:00hrs, the HDD gallery will open the exhibition by Lana Grahek, one of the most productive and most interesting Croatian graphic designers of the younger generation. The exhibition is part of the program line of the HDD Gallery titled “In first person”, and represents a cross section of her professional work over the last five years.
In addition to presenting works by many renowned authors, exploring the history of design and stimulating experimental works, the HDD gallery also makes efforts to promote young authors, namely those who in their media realize not only excellent design projects, but also interesting ways to treat some of the important themes in design today. Lana Grahek’s exhibition is conceived as an overview of her works that have been made over the last five years, including those realized during her studies at the Design Studio at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Zagreb. Most of them are linked to the collaboration with the Kultura promjene Studentskog centra, the Teatar & TD, the MM Center of the SC, the French Pavilion and the individual projects such as the Ganz New Festival and the Fair of Culture.
EUROPEAN COMMISSION ISSUES GUIDELINES FOR IMPLEMENTATION OF GDPR
The General Data Protection Regulation enters into force on 25 May 2018 and imposes stricter rules on personal data protection.
The provisions of this regulation will have to be respected by all entities that process personal data of natural persons as part of their activities. If you would like to learn more about personal data protection, we invite you to read the guidelines prepared by the European Commission.
Guidelines on GDPR regulations and how to implement them will also be announced next week by the European Association of Communications Agencies (EACA).
WHITE SQUARE FESTIVAL TO GATHER EUROPEAN CREATIVES IN MINSK THIS APRIL
One of the leading creative festivals in Eastern Europe, the White Square Festival which annually welcomes over 1000 entries and 700 delegates from 30 countries of the world, is set to take place this April in Minsk, Belarus.

TRIVAGO HITS BILLION-EURO REVENUE MILESTONE
German based hotel price comparison site Trivago has a billion reasons for celebration after posting a healthy 37% rise in revenues to €1.04bn.
The lodging portal has gone from strength to strength on the back of investment in technology and advertising, helping it to pair back losses from €51.4m last year to just €13m this year.
Trivago’s hunger for growth has seen it snap up machine learning startup Tripl and swamp London Underground with endless pictures of the ‘Trivago girl’ who followed commuters’ every move in a widely mocked campaign.
MERCEDES-BENZ APOLOGISES FOR DALAI LAMA AD FOLLOWING PRESSURE FROM CHINA
Mercedes-Benz has issued an apology to the country of China, following a controversy which ensued after the brand posted an ad on Instagram quoting exiled Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.
The automaker posted what it called a ‘motivational Monday’ quote from the figure on Instagram earlier this week. The words, pictured alongside a luxury car, read: ‘Look at situations from all angles and you will become more open’.
Some Chinese consumers said they would boycott the car firm in light of the post, which touched a political nerve on social media. The country has previously accused the Dalai Lama of leading a separatist movement, but he maintains that he wants autonomy and to protect the Tibet’s distinctive Buddhist culture.
DDB PROMOTES WENDY CLARK TO GLOBAL CEO
Omnicom has promoted Wendy Clark to the role of DDB global president and CEO. Clark, who formerly served as North American CEO, reports directly to Omnicom CEO John Wren and succeeds Chuck Brymer, who will move into the chairman role.
“After 12 terrific years as the head of DDB, I am excited to hand the baton to Wendy,” Brymer said in a statement. “She is passionate about our business and clients and has proven to be an inspiring leader for our company.”
Clark becomes the first woman to serve in a global chief executive role at an Omnicom creative network.
