SOCIAL MEDIA AGE LIMIT MIGHT BE SET AT 16
By the end of the week all European children aged bellow 16 could be banned from using Facebook, Snapchat and all other messenger services, unless they have an explicit consent of the parents. This could happen if the Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament raises the “digital age of consent” from 13 to 16 years.
According to some experts, such decision would be counterproductive and they believe that this would actually make children more vulnerable. Others, however, argue that social media have provided a lifeline to children with different problems and that such a provision could create the risk that children will no longer feel safe to seek help on the internet.
