After 20 years, the time has come for Media Marketing and me to part ways. When I first started thinking about it a few months ago, it seemed like it would be difficult and painful. But—it’s not. This is a win-win situation.
Media Marketing is gaining a newsroom of young and ambitious people who will inject fresh blood into the portal, bringing many new ideas, their own enthusiasm, and positive energy. They’ll need a little time to master the topics Media Marketing covers and for you to accept them. I encourage you to do so. It won’t be long before you realize that these changes were necessary. Only change is certain—everything else is pointless.
Please don’t send news to me anymore, but instead to the editorial team at: [email protected].
It happened purely by chance, but even if I had chosen it, I couldn’t have picked a better way to say goodbye: I’m parting with Media Marketing through an interview with Dunja Ivana Balon. I’m happy about that, because Dunja is a unique presence and energy in Croatia and the region. Over the years, we have been (and, God willing, will remain) strong support for each other. It was an honor and a great pleasure. I’m not just saying that—I truly feel it. This Diary entry and the interview with Dunja came together by divine will. I thank Him for that.
Twenty years of the portal have given me a lot. I’ve met numerous people from the communications industry. With those I chose, I’ve become close friends. I’ve attended many festivals and major events. I’ve even received a few awards. All in all, two decades in the service of the regional communications industry flew by—they were filled with excitement and unforgettable memories.
Is it normal for a 75-year-old man to “start over,” launching new projects? It’s not. But in my career, which has lasted 55 years so far, almost nothing has been normal—so this won’t be either. You can read about what I’ve done and how I did it in my book Hotel Jugoslavija. I’ll send you the book in PDF format for free—just send me your email address.
In January of this year, I organized the first Advertisimo—a concert by the Sarajevo Philharmonic for the regional communications industry. I really like the name Advertisimo and the design of its visual identity (thanks to the genius Bojan Hadžihalilović), so I’d like to keep this project in my life for a while longer. For the next year or two, it will be “just” a concert, and later I’d like to build a small brand architecture where the concert will be just one part.
More on that—when the time comes.
