Burnout has become one of the most common features of the modern work environment. According to recent research, as many as 78 percent of employees in Croatia have experienced symptoms of professional burnout, while similar trends are being recorded in other countries. Despite the rapid development of artificial intelligence and digital tools, pressure on productivity continues to grow, while the mental burden on employees does not decrease. As a result, topics such as longevity, healthy ageing and resilience are increasingly entering the focus of business and leadership discussions.
In this context, dr. sc. Susanna Søberg, a Danish scientist and one of the leading experts in longevity, is coming to the Future Tense powered by Lürssen conference, which will take place on April 22 in Zagreb. In her work, Søberg researches biological mechanisms that influence energy, resilience and work capacity, with a particular focus on nervous system regulation and thermoregulation.
“Prevention is the key to longevity. Health professionals often see only the final outcomes such as hypertension, insulin resistance or depression. These are actually consequences of long-term stress; leaders can act preventively by creating environments that protect sleep, recovery and metabolic health.”
Her message is particularly relevant in a business environment in which leaders are often expected to be constantly available and highly efficient. As the author of the Thermalist method, which is based on controlled exposure to cold and heat stimuli, Søberg explores how physiological processes can help strengthen resilience to stress and maintain long-term work capacity. In a business context, as she explains, longevity does not only mean extending lifespan, but the ability to sustain high performance without burnout through better metabolic and autonomic health.
In addition to Søberg, this year’s Future Tense powered by Lürssen conference will also feature futurist Rik Vera, global cybersecurity expert Mikko Hyppönen, while Märtha Rehnberg will speak about sustainable practices and the transformation of traditional industries.

Among the conference partners are Lürssen, Erste&Steiermärkische Bank, Nestlé, Kaufland, Končar and Visa.
The Future Tense powered by Lürssen conference brings together business leaders and representatives of the academic and scientific community, and through cooperation with Copenhagen Institute for Futures Studies (CIFS), IEDC Bled School of Management, Association for the Promotion of Smart Industries and European Forum encourages the development of a new generation of leaders ready for the challenges of the future.
