Chanel is ushering in its Métiers d’art 2026 presentation with a distinctly New York-infused teaser film, capturing the city’s blend of grit and enchantment. The short, directed by Michel Gondry, follows House ambassadors Margaret Qualley and A$AP Rocky as they move through the city, dressed in looks crafted by Matthieu Blazy. The collaboration aligns naturally with Gondry’s signature style, his career has long been marked by surreal, emotionally resonant imagery, seen in works such as Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
The Métiers d’Art 2026 collection returns to New York for the first time since 2019 and the film marks Matthieu Blazy’s first showcase for the House. The narrative follows A$AP Rocky and Margaret Qualley as a couple beginning their day together. Qualley commutes by subway to what appears to be her office, while Rocky embarks on a more unconventional journey, running across the city and even swimming through the East River in a surreal, accelerated montage.
Director Michel Gondry intercuts the action with scenes of recognizable New York locations, including the Brooklyn Bridge, traditional fire escapes, and the Astor Place station. Rocky ultimately reaches Qualley’s workplace ahead of her and waits with a small black box in hand. When she emerges from the subway and sees him, she rushes toward him, jumping into his arms. The film ends with the pair embracing before descending back into the station together.
A$AP Rocky, recently named Chanel’s newest ambassador, reflected on collaborating with Gondry: “All of my music videos that I direct derived some inspiration from one of his films,” he said. “I feel like a kid in a candy store. On a normal day, I’m usually perky, but today I’m fanning out. I hope I’m not annoying him.”
