Google Gave Notifications a Human Form and Pixel the Task of Silencing Them

In the first film from the Reclaim the Moment campaign, messages, requests and sports updates gather outside a café window, but the only thing that manages to get the two friends’ attention is a call from someone the user has personally marked as important.

A friend request, a reaction to a photo, an event invitation and a game score are no longer icons on a screen. In the new ad for Pixel 11, each of these interruptions becomes a person standing outside a café window, shouting over the others in an attempt to attract the attention of two women engrossed in conversation.

Among the crowd is Stephen Curry, four-time NBA champion and Pixel brand partner. Dribbling a basketball, he approaches the window to announce that Game 2 is heading into overtime. His sports update goes just as unnoticed as the shouts of people commenting on photos, reminding them of obligations or asking for a response to a message.

The film Uninterrupted opens the global Reclaim the Moment campaign, through which Google is introducing its new Pixel 11 phone series. Instead of listing the device’s capabilities, the campaign turns one of them into a scene immediately familiar to anyone who has tried to finish a conversation without looking at their screen.

The feature in question is HiLight, available on the Pixel 11 Pro, Pro XL and Pro Fold models. Ambient lights positioned around the rear flash alert the user when a pre-selected contact is trying to reach them. The phone can therefore remain face down on the table, with a call from the protagonist’s babysitter becoming the only signal to which she decides to give her attention.

The campaign continues the Ask More of Your Phone platform, introduced in 2025, but changes the angle from which Google speaks about the phone’s capabilities. This time, the device’s value does not lie in notifying the user about everything that is happening, but in helping them decide what truly deserves an interruption.

The campaign was developed by Google’s in-house creative team, while Uninterrupted was directed by Craig Gillespie for the production company MJZ, with support from Nick Ball, Rocky Morton and Miles Gillespie. The campaign began running on 12 August across television, online video platforms, social media and retail. Films devoted to other situations in which a phone usually demands more attention than its user wants to give it will arrive next week, including a concert and a holiday overwhelmed by calendar obligations.
