Our interviewee today in our talks about people from Slovenian communications industries and golf is Janja Božić Marovt, CEO of the Institute for marketing and media research Mediana Ljubljana.
Media Marketing: Why and when did you decide to play golf?
Janja Božić Marovt: Almost twenty years ago, a foreign owner of the company for which my husband worked dragged him to a game of golf. At first I rejected his persuasions to join him. I chose horse riding so we can jointly go to Mokrice, but let him have his golf, and I will have my horses. After more than a year, at the insistence of my husband, we started little by little spending time together on the golf course.
Media Marketing: What is it that golf has and other sports don’t?
Janja Božić Marovt: You can really play it your whole life. You can spend almost the whole year on golf courses in the broader local environment. Your primary competition is yourself. With a maximum concentration you can still have really nice talk with selected friends during five hours of mingling and chatting.
Media Marketing: How are you progressing? How far have you gone?
Janja Božić Marovt: Is barely make any progress, but I finally managed to relax and enjoy. Golf, like any other sport or any other activity, requires exercise, lots of exercise. In my 24/7 so far, work had the primacy on weekdays, kids on the weekends, so I really rarely played. Several times on vacation and several memorable tournaments.
Media Marketing: How much time every week do you dedicate to golf?
Janja Božić Marovt: There’s still no weekly count for me. Not even monthly – for now.
Media Marketing: Have you participated in some tournaments?
Janja Božić Marovt: Very gladly. I also join friendly, business and charity tournaments. When I don’t have work obligations of course, which are still a priority.
Media Marketing: Do you follow golf on TV?
Janja Božić Marovt: Only sporadically, when the husband is watching. And I find it useful. It’s very calming, and it’s nice to see that, for example, in the tournament The Flyer, even the world’s best players like Mickelson sometimes have their balls end up in the water. Unbelievable.
Media Marketing: Would you advise others to pick up a golf club?
Janja Božić Marovt: Yes, it is useful. I think golf is one of the best investments for retirement, because it allows active leisure and deep socializing with others who have the same interests and are dear to you. For me personally it’s also a confirmation that nothing in life can be done “with one hand” or rather halfway. As in all other areas, if you want to be good at something, you could practice with just a little talent, work and work hard, and persist in it in a focused manner. And there is no reason for a bad result, even in bad (weather) conditions.
