Japanese global fashion retailer UNIQLO has named actress Cate Blanchett, winner of an Oscar, BAFTA, and Golden Globe, as its new Global Brand Ambassador. In this role, Blanchett will help promote the brand’s LifeWear philosophy, which emphasizes ongoing improvements in product quality while fostering positive contributions to people and society.
Commenting on the news, Tadashi Yanai, UNIQLO Founder and Chairman, President & CEO of Fast Retailing, said, “Ms. Blanchett is among the greatest actors of her generation—on stage and on screen. But our admiration goes beyond entertainment. Her passion and engagement is evident in her contributions as a role model for women and her mentorship of emerging film and theatre artists, as well as her long standing commitment to humanitarian and environmental causes. Through our partnership, we will work together to make positive changes in the world around us.”
Beyond her acting career, Blanchett is engaged in social and cultural initiatives. She serves as a UNHCR Global Goodwill Ambassador, sits on the Earthshot Awards Board, and was named the first Ambassador of the Millennium Seed Bank. Blanchett also contributes to the National Theatre Board, supports the Sydney Film Festival as its patron, and plays an active role with the NIDA Foundation. In addition, she collaborates with numerous conservation and arts organizations, including the Australian Conservation Fund, Artists Support Fund, SAG-AFTRA Foundation, and the Australian Wildlife Conservation Service.
On the new partnership the actress commented “I value the ambition of UNIQLO to make life better through its LifeWear apparel: timeless design, perfected simplicity, affordable, accessible, quality clothing that lasts. I am energised by the opportunity to help UNIQLO advance important aspects of its LifeWear philosophy-supporting the next generation, playing a part in highlighting and combatting the ongoing global displacement crisis, giving back to communities, and finding meaningful ways to contribute to a more equitable world. On top of that, to creatively reconnect with Clare Waight Keller and to be in dialogue with UNIQLO Global Brand Ambassador, Roger Federer, is a privilege indeed.”
UNIQLO says its decision to bring Blanchett on board was driven by her international achievements and the authority she carries as both a style icon and humanitarian voice. The brand plans to share more about upcoming campaigns and initiatives with Blanchett in the near future.
