The Type Directors Club (TDC), one of the world’s leading organizations dedicated to typography and letterform design, has opened applications for its three international student scholarship programmes, aimed at supporting emerging design talent worldwide.
Among them is the Adé Hogue Scholarship, supported by Monotype and established in partnership with the Broderick Adé Hogue Foundation. Created in memory of the Chicago-based art director, designer and letterer Adé Hogue, the $5,000 award recognises a BIPOC student globally who is entering their junior undergraduate year or the first year of graduate/postgraduate study and demonstrates exceptional promise in typography or letterform design. Applications close April 16, 2026.
Also supported by Monotype, the Beatrice Warde Scholarship honours the influential typographic journalist and scholar who became TDC’s first female member. The $5,000 scholarship is intended for a woman or non-binary undergraduate student entering their junior year whose work shows outstanding ability, sophistication and potential in typography, lettering or type design. The deadline is likewise April 16, 2026.
In addition, the broader TDC Scholarship Programme is open to undergraduate students worldwide entering their senior year (September 2026–May 2027). This programme will award multiple grants, including $1,000 and $500 scholarships, to students demonstrating strong typographic skill and creative excellence. Applications close on the same April deadline.
Beyond financial support, all recipients will receive a one-year TDC student membership, a copy of the latest World’s Best Typography® annual, and complimentary access to TDC events.
Commenting on the initiative, TDC Advisory Board member David Jon Walker emphasised that continued support from Monotype enables the organisation to nurture the next generation of designers while promoting diversity, sustainability and excellence in typographic education globally.
Scholarship winners are scheduled to be announced in May 2026, with further details about each scholarship and application information available here.
