The new world order is here, but what does it bring us? Who has been underestimated more by the world – Vladimir Putin or Donald Trump? What does the arrival of the “old-new” U.S. president mean for global peace and Croatia? Igor Tabak, one of the region’s leading military analysts (obris.org), and Domagoj Juričić, a political risk management advisor, joined Krešimir Macan on Špica s Macanom to exchange their experiences for the first time.
During his election campaign, Trump promised to end global conflicts, and Juričić explains that this is part of his plan not only to receive but, unlike Barack Obama, to earn the Nobel Peace Prize. However, his demand that every NATO member allocate 2% of their GDP for defense has led to comprehensive rearmament, and increased military investments raise fears of new conflicts, particularly in the Balkans. “Trump thinks he can fix Ukraine and Palestine, smacking dwarves on the head,” Juričić adds, claiming that small countries are of no interest to the “old-new” president.
Although the guests are convinced that there is no room for a powder keg to explode, it does not change the reality that the Croatian army is in a very poor state. It is also shameful that no one from the government has commented more clearly on Serbia’s purchase of Rafale jets, prompting questions about how an EU member can sell the same military equipment to another member and to a neighboring non-EU country.
Tabak estimates that the situation for Ukrainians is far from favorable due to a Western world “castrated” by nuclear threats. He also believes part of Europe has compromised itself through its relations with Aleksandar Vučić. “Europe has the economic strength of a continent but the political strength of an island,” the guests concluded, offering suggestions from their respective fields on how to change this.
In the new season of the podcast, Krešimir Macan, alongside experts from various sectors, brings fresh perspectives and explores potential solutions for challenges and current issues in Croatia and the world. The first episode of the second season, where Maro Alavanja and Marijan Palić shared experiences of successful political campaigns with Macan, garnered over 50,000 viewers.
