The Greencajt Film Festival will take place on May 21 and 22 at the Zagreb Fair, in theoutdoor area of Pavilion 13. Thanks to a partnership with Raiffeisen Croatia, audiences can look forward to two days filled with award-winning documentaries and auteur films – an impressive 80 of them! From breathtaking natural landscapes and ancient tribes with their cultures, to stories of innovators pushing boundaries – each film brings a new perspective and inspiration, and admission is free.
The festival gives you the opportunity to dive into oceanic worlds, walk through untamed jungles, discover future-focused innovations, and explore authentic tales of disappearing ancient traditions. From mysterious marine worlds and the fight against ocean pollution, to the last guardians of rainforest wilderness and heroes using innovation to save the planet – every film tells a powerful story and offers an unforgettable experience.
Films such as “No Filter Beach,” “Hazel the Ocean Guardian,” and “Koalas 911” explore the consequences of human impact on nature, as well as individual and community efforts to protect it. “The Forest Spirit,” directed by BAFTA winner Jamie Jones, takes us to the Romanian town of Nucșoara, where centuries-old beech trees bear witness to the harmony between people and nature. The films will also transport you to the heart of the Amazon, Congo, and Borneo – among the last wilderness defenders – through stories like “Curupira – The Mother of the Forest” and “Queen of the Ecuadorian Canopy,” which spotlight Indigenous communities preserving their traditions and knowledge in harmony with nature.

Lily Cole – renowned model, actress, and environmental activist – emphasizes that sustainability is not a trend but a responsibility through her film “Who Cares Wins” and her personal appearance at the Greencajt Festival. On the other side of the generational spectrum, but equally impactful, Jerome Foster II – one of the youngest White House environmental advisors and a charismatic youth climate justice leader – highlights his fight to influence climate policy through the short film series “The Bear Hug: Jerome Foster II.”

One of the festival’s major themes is greenwashing – a growing phenomenon that shapes public perception of environmental efforts and involves companies falsely portraying their products or services as eco-friendly. Titles like “Green Marketing Explained by Hamsters” use a humorous and engaging approach to reveal the tactics companies use to mask the real environmental impact of their offerings. With animated hamster characters, viewers learn to recognize false green claims and understand how greenwashing appears in everyday life. Films like “Blue Carbon on Wall Street” and “The Circular Solution” explore new technologies and approaches to tackling environmental challenges, while “People vs. Pipelines” and “Kenyan Wildlife Warriors” depict communities standing up to corporate interests to protect their homes and ways of life.

“Make this incredible film journey possible!” – is the message Greencajt Film Festival and Raiffeisen Croatia are sending to the public. The full program, featuring over 80 titles, is available on the official website. You can also follow more information about the festival on Instagram and Facebook.
