The eighth edition of Creative Republic, a festival of creative communications, took place late last week at the Cultural Center in Bihać, bringing together more than 150 participants from across the Adriatic region – including Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Serbia, and Slovenia.
In an atmosphere that nurtures ideas, dialogue, and inspiration, this year’s Creative Republic served as a meeting place for a wide range of profiles: creative directors, designers, strategists, brand managers, digital specialists, illustrators, young talents, and seasoned professionals. Above all, it was a gathering of like-minded individuals – people who love what they do and want to share it with others.
At the festival’s opening, the Mayor of Bihać, Elvedin Sedić, addressed the delegates of the Creative Republic by saying that a city is not defined by its streets and squares, but by its people.
‛The Creative Republic has made Bihać recognizable on the regional map of the creative industry. The city recognized the value of this idea, and as of this year, Creative Republic is officially a city-endorsed event. That gives us the responsibility to offer support, to build together, and to tap into the full potential we have – because Bosnia and Herzegovina has creatives who not only follow global trends but also set them‛, said Sedić.
Over the course of two days in Bihać, much was said – about new ideas, creative processes, challenges, and successes. The program featured masterclasses from regional industry leaders, a panel discussion that didn’t shy away from difficult topics, case study lectures revealing behind-the-scenes insights, and an evening party that proved creatives learn best when they unwind.
A particularly emotional moment was the opening of the exhibition “Diagnosis B1”, showcasing theater posters by Vanja Cuculić at the Unsko-Sanski Canton Museum gallery – demonstrating that design can be political, intimate, and socially responsible.
Creative Republic is a space of freedom. A place where a small town shows great strength. Where the audience actively participates, speakers don’t leave right after their slot, and ideas continue to circulate long after the official program ends. A place where it’s possible to be vulnerable, authentic, and true to oneself – and inspire others in the process.
Festival organizer Nermin Nino Kasupović reflected on the early days of the event.
‛When we started this story ten years ago, I never imagined that one small idea would grow into something this big. Creative Republic was never just a conference – it became a movement. Because right here, in Bihać, a small town at the edge of the world, creatives from all over the Adria region come to experience something pure – emotion, raw enthusiasm, and the sincerity that only true creatives carry within them. This year, we recorded a 50% increase in audience numbers, which clearly shows that Bihać has that something. Something worth getting in the car and driving for hours to experience – because what awaits you here can’t be felt anywhere else. See you at the ninth Creative Republic‛, Kasupović concluded.
Bihać once again proved to be a small town at the end of the world that knows how to take center stage. And Creative Republic remains a reminder that true change in the industry doesn’t come from the top – but from the community: one that builds, connects, and believes in the power of creativity.
