Super Bowl is one of the most prestigious sporting events in the world, and one of the most attractive advertising real-estates, which is why it isn’t surprising that advertisers regularly grab all the available inventory at the Big Game.
Such popularity has also gained this event high esteem in advertising awards circles, which is why the Clios have a special award dedicated just to it, the Super Clio.
This year the award went to the ad created jointly by Droga5 and Wieden + Kennedy New York, aired during the second quarter of Sunday’s telecast.
The 60’ spot showed the Bud Knight, who starred in Bud Light’ 2018 Super Bowl commercial, being beaten in a joust. Then, the giant GoT character, The Mountain, appears to gouge out the Bud Knight’s eyes, just before a giant dragon arrives to set the entire scene ablaze.
The jury praised “Joust” as a great piece of craft, boasting engaging humor and stunning effects. The fact that it connected fans of two bellowed brands most certainly helped its case.
