Publicis Communications CEO Arthur Sadoun announced a number of key promotions within the network. The goal behind the new appointments is to help each of the Publicis agencies win more new business in the coming months, adding to such recent wins as P&G Dish Care, GSK, Walmart and Hewlett Packard Enterprise.
Carla Serrano and Bill Kanarick have been appointed as co-chief strategy officers of Publicis Communications, which is comprised of agencies including Saatchi & Saatchi, Leo Burnett, BBH and others. Serrano will continue to operate as CEO of Publicis New York, while Kanarick will continue his role as chief strategy officer of Publicis.Sapient, the holding company’s digital hub. Sadoun noted in an internal memo that he plans to leverage the capabilities from SapientNitro within each of the agencies to help drive digital innovation.
“Our ambition is to be our clients’ indispensable creative partner in their transformation,” Sadoun said. “With these appointments, we are creating closer ties with Publicis.Sapient to deliver the interdependent model of the future to all of our clients. We are strengthening our leadership teams to continue to raise the bar for creative excellence.”
At the agency level, Kate Stanners will take on the role of Saatchi & Saatchi global chairwoman while continuing to fulfill her duties as global chief creative officer for the agency. Stanners replaces Kevin Robert who officially resigned form the role on Sept. 1 following comments he made during an interview with Business Insider that the diversity debate in advertising was “over.”
Judy John, the current CEO and CCO for Leo Burnett Canada will now add the title of Leo Burnett chief creative officer, North America, and Brent Nelson will become the new chief strategic officer for Leo Burnett North America. John and Nelson will round out the Leo Burnett leadership team, which includes global CEO Rich Stoddart and global chief creative officer Mark Tutssel, and will be tasked with uniting the agency’s U.S. and Canadian operations.
Additionally, Valérie Henaff adds the title of global president of Publicis Worldwide to her current title, CEO of Publicis Conseil. Finally, Loris Nold and Justin Billingsley have been appointed as chief operating officers for Publicis Communications, with Nold focused on Asia and the Middle East and Billingsley focused on Latin America and Europe.
“We are reinforcing the spirit of Power of One by simplifying our structures at local levels to foster greater collaboration and seamless access to resources,” Sadoun said. “In just nine months, our approach has delivered some fantastic results, and I know that with these latest moves the best is yet to come.”
Sadoun’s announcement comes roughly nine months after Publicis Groupe chairman and CEO Maurice Levy first announced plans for a massive companywide restructuring. In December, the holding company broke its existing brands into four hubs: Publicis Communications, Publicis Media, Publicis.Sapient and Publicis Healthcare.
