Anyone who’s ever worked on a commercial shoot is bound to recognize some of the painfully funny moments in “The 1st,” a new film by mobile social network Vero. And, hopefully, you won’t recognize yourself.
Vero teamed up with DMC Film, the content studio co-founded by Michael Fassbender and Conor McCaughan, and Mother’s co-founder Mark Waites, who wrote and directed it. The trailer, which is promoting Vero’s content, can be seen below; the full film, available exclusively on Vero, tells the story of Kelly, an experienced 1st assistant director who steps in to cover someone else who’s got flu, on a shoot.
The film is directed by a pretentious agency creative-turned-director who comes up with some gems such as “I was always a director…I just wasn’t directing.” Then the rumor starts that Kelly’s presence on a shoot is somehow cursed. Couple that with the fact that the commercial is for milk and involves a large installation of carefully balanced milk bottles….and you just know disaster is around the corner.
With spot-on casting, performances and perfectly-drawn characters, the 12-minute film is a great watch for anyone involved in the industry.
