Gingerbread cookies, tiny, with cream, with chocolate … No matter which cookies you prefer, one thing is certain – we are nearing the most wonderful time of year in which even those who say they avoid sweets will find it hard to resist the smells that spread from the kitchen.
This is well-known to Mirjana Špoljar, the queen of Croatia’s ruler slastistika who every Christmas prepares at least 15-odd types of cakes for her loved ones, all difficult to resist. In recent days she had been preparing deserts for the visitors of Gooštiranje at the Super Konzum Radnička in Zagreb, with a little help from your favorite TV host Karmela Vukov Colić, while the PR agency Komunikacijski Laboratorij provided PR support to the workshop.
Konzum visitors who came in time to get stocked on supplies for the upcoming holidays, Mirjana, over a sweet refreshment, introduced to a few tricks that will help them in preparation of Christmas treats.
“People often ask me what the secret of a good cake is. If you stick to the recipe and don’t start ‘experimenting’ on your own, there’s no reason for the cake to come out bad,” said Mirjana and showed how to make a cake with apples and cinnamon, and fresh baskets of crispy pastry that melt in your mouth.
“Crispy pastry has to ‘rest’ in the fridge and you must not knead it too much because it will fall apart. It will come out best with margarine which should not be dissolved when you mix it with other ingredients. The margarine is the key for basket cakes to smoothly slide out of the mold,” revealed the pastry chef who during her career, which has lasted for more than two decades, made sweets for kings, princes and famous musicians and actors.
More sweet inspiration awaits you on the portal Slastistika.hr, and in the show Kratko&Slatko, Thursdays from 18.00 hrs. on RTL Croatia.
And don’t forget Mirjana’s advice – a cake will succeed as long as you stick to the recipe!
