Greater Transparency in Influencer advertising and Video platforms

The EU Council is putting pressure on influencers and video-sharing platforms to establish clearer rules to protect users and ensure fair competition in the digital market. Platforms such as YouTube and TikTok are under special scrutiny, as well as influencers who promote content without clearly indicating the sponsors behind those advertisements. The EU Council is calling on the European Commission to provide greater clarity regarding expectations from these actors, particularly in terms of advertising transparency and user protection. In an increasingly complex digital world, the message is clear: it’s time for both influencers and platforms to start respecting the rules – or face the consequences of failing to do so.
