Last week, Google held its traditional I/O conference, where it once again announced major changes to the world of search. Alongside the continued global rollout of AI Overviews, which finally launched in Croatia last week, Google also introduced what could be the biggest transformation in the eCommerce industry to date: purchasing directly from search results, without the need to open a webshop.
With these announcements, Google is making a major shift – from being a search engine to becoming a transaction platform. Instead of guiding users to information, it now takes action on their behalf.
This isn’t just a UX update – it’s a complete rewrite of the eCommerce industry as we know it.
