The Electronic Media Act and all other associated regulations in Croatia are due for a number of changes in the future. This was confirmed at the 9th Days of Electronic Media in Opatija by the Croatian Minister of Culture Nina Obuljen Koržinek.
Although amendments to the Electronic Media Act have been announced multiple times now, the Minister announced that preparations can already begin for the submitting of proposals to the Ministry in order to timely forward all initiatives to the public debate. However, first it will be necessary to bring an umbrella Media Strategy, which will be the framework for the future development of the media scene in Croatia, so the adoption of new legal solutions is expected by 2018.
Representatives of national and local television stations were in agreement in their assessment that the Electronic Media Act no longer corresponds to the times in which media today operate, and that even changes can save it, highlighting the need for a completely new law.
In the panel Children, our most loyal viewers, results were presented of the research titled How children watch television programs? The survey, conducted by the Agency for Electronic Media, in cooperation with the agency Ipsos Puls, found that nearly half of children up to 17 years of age spend about three hours a day watching TV content. For children older than 13, there’s a noticeable decline in time spent on TV, and shift to Internet content over which parents have almost no control. The study also found that younger children are increasingly watching TV in the evening, between 19 and 23 hours. Also, the results show that 13 percent of children fully independently decide on the content they want to see.
Representatives of national and local TV stations were presented with a marketing analysis of the market for 2015 and 2016. Radio and TV advertising has shown stability in the last two years, with a slight decline of television advertising, and a concurrent growth in Internet advertising.
The hosts of the 9th Days of Electronic Media were Croatian Association of Radio Stations and Newspapers – HURIN, the National Association of Television Stations – NUT and the Agency for Electronic Media.
