YAHOO TO FOCUS ON FEWER AD PRODUCTS IN AN EFFORT TO SAVE BUSINESS

Yahoo will streamline its advertising offer in order to focus on a fewer number of the most popular advertising products, in perhaps the last attempt to catch up with Google and Facebook. Struggling media giant on Tuesday announced a full range of strategic changes in an effort to reduce the worries of investors after the disclosure of $4.4 billion loss in 2015. Advertising on Yahoo will thus focus on the biggest trends currently – mobile, video, native and social. Also, local products will no longer be offered in most of Europe and South America, as the focus will shift to the US, Canada, UK, Germany, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

NEWS FROM THE SUPER BOWL

As the Super Bowl nears brands continue to unveil their ads for the Big Game. Audi jumped in Wednesday with presentation of their ad that will certainly be one of the widely commented when it comes to the soundtrack. The spot runs with David Bowie’s “Starman” in the background, which infuses great energy into the story about a retired astronaut who rediscovers a passion for life while driving his son’s Audi R8 V10 Plus. The video was done by agency Venables Bell & Partners.

Snickers recently released a teaser of their Super Bowl ad from “You’re Not You When You’re Hungry” campaign, which features Marilyn Monroe with a bit rougher voice. Now we found out whose voice it is. Snickers has unveiled its 30-second video, in which Willem Dafoe appears in the role of Monroe. “I have to admit,” said Defoe. “Playing a Hollywood bombshell is a new challenge for me. But as a huge fan of Marilyn Monroe I just couldn’t resist the opportunity to take a walk in her shoes and famous white dress.” The ad was done by BBDO New York.

Another star to appear in a Super Bowl ad this year is Christopher Walken. In the Walken Closet spot for Kia, done by agency David&Goliath, Walken will promote the new Kia Optima. In the ad, Walken sits in a walk-in closet and welcomes the main character who just wants to put on his beige socks with his beige suit. With his unique narration, Walken persuades the main protagonist to break away from the mold and to opt for something exciting, comparing the new Optima with “the most exciting pair of socks in the world”. Watch the ad, you’ll love it.
