#SECOND BIHAĆ CHIT CHAT: ATELIER 01 CONCEPT STORE

Small chats for big ideas present Sanja Tipura Ražanica and her project Atelier 01 Concept Store from Sarajevo. The Second Bihać Chit Chat will be held on Monday, 8 August 2016 at 19:30, in front of the Cultural Center of Bihać.

Atelier 01 Concept Store is a story about a clearly defined path to achieve one’s own dreams. Sanja Tipura Ražanica and her team are doing work they love, and they don’t use the chewed-out phrases “we don’t know” or “we can’t”. And because of this approach to work, they are a team that creates stories, stories with a concept. Their primary field of action are architecture and design. Overall, everything is based on a concept, as it is the essence of everything.

“Whether we are designing a house, a restaurant of 300 square meters, or a flat of 50 square meters, an armchair, a table, a lamp or any other visual identity – the concept is our mantra, and we always go back to it. Our goals are unrealistic for others, and for us they are acceptable and attainable. We don’t accept failure and I firmly believe that’s the only way to succeed. We want to achieve international success and that’s what we’re working for,” Sanja said.

Association for the development and promotion of creative industries “Ventilator” from Bihać is making a series of such events with the aim to motivate their fellow citizens to start creating positive entrepreneurial stories. All visitors will be able to engage in conversation with their comments, questions and suggestions.

More information about the event can be found on the FB page of Bihać Chit Chat.

ZAGREB LAUNCHES PRE-ACCELERATION PROGRAM STARTUP FACTORY

Development Agency Zagreb, in collaboration with the leading ICT companies in the country – Croatian Telecom, IBM and SmartIS – last week launched the pre-acceleration program Startup Factory Zagreb.

The program is intended for the development of smart city solutions aimed at improving the tourist offer of the City of Zagreb, and with the fund of 750,000 HRK for grants, it provides technical, infrastructural, mentoring and promotional assistance intended for developers and startups.

“In December last year Zagreb was declared the best Advent destination in the competition of 20 cities, and regardless of the season it records increased tourist arrivals and overnight stays. It’s enough to just walk around the city to see that the city is experiencing a tourist awakening, and is actively working to innovate and improve the offer, especially towards the development of smart city solutions. That’s the goal of Startup Factory Zagreb, which was launched by the Development Agency of Zagreb, and in which Croatian Telecom is involved as a partner. Deadline for applications for the program is 5 September, and eligible to participate are startups, individuals and companies, and all those who think they have a good idea. The program will last three months, and participants will have the opportunity to use superior technology platform and an advanced set of tools for creating applications,” said Igor Cerinnski of Croatian Telecom. 12th ZGRAF ANNOUNCES COMPETITION FOR EXHIBITION

Since it was established in 1975, Zgraf brings together designers, theorists and critics of exceptional international careers in Zagreb, with the intention of questioning the fundamental problems and the state of design in contemporary society, in order to continually emphasize the importance of design as a profession, and present to the general public the best recent works in the field of graphic design and visual communications. Works for presentation at the Main Exhibition of Zgraf 12 are entered in two categories – for Review and for Theme – through the electronic application available on the Zgraf website.

REVIEW is an international exhibition of selected works from the field of graphic design and visual communications, and THEME an international exhibition of selected realised works and works designed specifically for this exhibition on the theme of ‘Social Reruns’. For both parts of Zgraf 12’s main exhibition works made between 2012 and the submission deadline are eligible to apply. More information about the terms and conditions, how to apply, theme and submission fee, as well as online application forms are available on the official website of Zgraf 12.

Works for Review and Theme may be submitted only by authors or groups of authors. All authors or groups of authors may submit no more than five works. Groups of authors are design teams, design studios or agencies. Authors working in a group may submit five works separately in case they were produced independently from the group and are not signed as group work. Submission fee for Review and Theme for a single entry is €50 per submission, for a small series (up to 3 pieces in each submission) €75 and for a large series (up to 5 pieces in each submission) €100. Submission fee is not refundable. All works must be submitted via online entry forms for Review and Theme by 15 October 2016.

TWITTER LAUNCHES CAMPAIGN OVER CRITICISM THAT IT DOESN’T KNOW WHAT IT WANTS TO BE

Twitter has started a new advertising campaign in order to inform users why they should use it.

Titled “See what’s happening”, the campaign is focused on showing newcomers the insight into the discussions taking place on the platform. The company says that 90 percent of people around the world recognize Twitter as a brand, but don’t really know what it’s all about.

For example, the social network has found that most people who knew about Twitter, but did not use it, thought it was a social network to connect with family or friends. Basically, these users thought it was a rival to Facebook, which is not what Twitter is about.

On the other hand, Twitter claims they want to dispel the notion that users have to tweet every day. Although the advertising campaign will not be enough to revitalize the slow growth of Twitter, it is a step in the right direction. One of the common criticism addressed at this company is that it doesn’t know what it really wants to be.

MAN JUMPS FROM 7,620 METERS WITHOUT A PARACHUTE IN A STUNT FOR STRIDE GUM

A 42-year-old skydiver made history Saturday, becoming the first person to jump from an airplane without a parachute and land in a safety net. This freefall from 7,620 meters into a 30-by-30-meter net for the history books was actually a stunt for the TV special „Stride Gum Presents Heaven Sent“, and was broadcast live on the Fox network.

The stunt was executed by Luke Aikins, a veteran skydiver with over 18,000 jumps in his two and a half decades long career in skydiving and BASE jumping. The net that safely received him was set up at the Big Sky movie ranch on the outskirts of Simi Valley, where the daredevil was awaited by his wife, Monica, who had been watching from the ground with their 4-year-old son and other family members.

Aikins jumped with three other skydivers (with parachutes) who accompanied him to a certain point from where an oxygen tank was no longer needed, so they could take it over from him leaving him unencumbered to safely land.

He was also part of the team back in 2012 when Felix Baumgartner became the first skydiver to break the speed of sound, during a jump from 24 miles above Earth.
