Slovenian Marketing Association (DMS), on Wednesday, 13 January, will celebrate its 40th birthday. The company was founded in 1976 when the present-day legends of marketing, led by Jernej Repovš and Jure Apih, started to pave new roads of Slovenian economy.
ABS WHEELS DOUBLES SALES AFTER CANCELLING SEXIST ADS
Swedish company ABS Wheels, a leading manufacturer and retailer of tires and rims, doubled its sales and popularity after giving up on advertisements with seductive starlets and opting for only direct presentation of products in the ads.
Swedish ombudsman for advertising four times marked advertisements of ABS Wheels as “sexist”, which is a record number of issued warnings to a company in this country, writes The Independent.
TWITTER TO INTRODUCE CONVERSATION ADS DESIGNED TO HELP USERS SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT BRANDS
Twitter wants to make it easier to users to spread the word about their favourite brands through new, conversational ads. Ads that are currently in beta testing include the call-to-action buttons, and after the user clicks the button a pre-written tweet pops up with the message of the brand. Users can also modify the text as they wish before sharing it with others.
Twitter claims that this option allows paid media to generate more organic posts, which provides an added value at no additional cost.
RUMOUR HAS IT TWITTER WILL EXPAND 140 CHARACTERS LIMIT TO 10.000
It is widely rumoured that Twitter might extend its iconic 140 characters per post limit with a new option that will allow users to write tweets of up to 10,000 characters. According to some sources, this option could be introduced already in the first half of this year.
To retain the feel and look of the site, the company is likely to allow users a shortened version of tweets that will contain up to 140 characters, with an option to extend it by clicking the text if they want to find out more.
DENTSU AEGIS’ CREATIVE AGENCY MCGARRYBOWEN TO OPEN OFFICE IN HONG KONG
Creative agency mcgarrybowen, owned by the Dentsu Aegis, is opening an office in Hong Kong as part of the expansion efforts in the Asian market. Hong Kong office will be led by Simone Tam, CEO of the agency for the wider region of China, and Jeffry Gamble, chief creative officer.
WPP’S GREY GROUP TAKES OVER SOUTH KOREAN DIGITAL AGENCY VINYL L-CO
WPP’s Grey Group at the beginning of 2016 took over the South Korea based digital agency Vinyl l-Co. Along with the agency Grey also acquired a greater number of high profile clients including L’Oreal, Microsoft, Nike and Samsung. WPP in recent years built up a significant presence in South Korea and currently employs 1,500 people in this country and generates around 280 million euros of revenue.
HEAD OF VW APOLOGIZES AT CES FOR EMISSIONS SCANDAL
The new head of Volkswagen, Matthias Muller, issued a lengthy apology to the American people on the first day of the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) in Las Vegas, on the occasion of the emission scandal last year when it was revealed that half a million VW’s vehicles cheated on harmful emissions tests.
Before unveiling their concept electric cars, Budd-e microbus and e-Golf Touch, Muller admitted that the scandal is not something VW is proud of, and that he was “disappointed that something like this could happen in a company that we love.” He also promised that the company is working hard to make things right and to ensure that nothing similar happens in the future.
