Pro Plus (Slovenia) is the highest grossing commercial television house in the area of former Yugoslavia. Pro Plus – the company that creates content for the TV channels POP TV, Kanal A, Kino, Brio and Oto, as well as for a number of internet portals – earned 62 million euros in 2017, which is seven million euros more than in the previous year. In second place is Croatian Nova TV, with a revenue of 52.4 million euros, reports Media Daily.
Pink International fell from first to the third place. Last year it recorded 52.3 million euros in revenue, or 5.5 million euros less than in 2016. In addition, Pink’s owner Željko Mitrović sold Pink BiH and Pink Montenegro to United Media.
Portal Media Daily estimates that Pink TV is not a good example of cost efficiency. “With so much overhead costs and 692 employees, as the largest television company in the region, they can’t boast with these results,” commented the authors of the survey. Pro Plus, on the other hand, has “just” 212 employees and Nova TV 324. After the first three, next on the list in terms of revenue is RTL, which last year earned over 40 million euros. Survey authors added that RTL is the largest media group in Europe that is still waiting for the right moment to penetrate the region.
The biggest growth in revenue by far was achieved by Al Jazeera Balkan from Bosnia and Herzegovina, which is ranked seventh in terms of total revenue. From slightly less than 6 million euros in 2016, this TV station increased revenues to 19 million euros last year. On the other hand, the television company OBN, also from Bosnia and Herzegovina, saw its revenues drop by half last year. Research authors generally warn of a drastic fall in revenues among commercial TV stations in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
