A special edition of Business Cafe was held this Saturday at the Zagreb Hotel Academia, featuring Baybars Altuntas, founder and president of the World Business Angel Forum (WBAF).
Mr. Altuntas is one of the most influential world entrepreneurs, the winner of a series of acknowledgments, a business angel and investor, a great promoter of entrepreneurship, entrepreneurial mentality and entrepreneurial culture around the world, a father of franchise business in Turkey, one of 110 stars from 22 countries in the well-known Shark Tank / Dragon’s nest series, and author of one of the five best-selling books from the world of entrepreneurship.
This special edition of Business Cafe has offered guests a real entrepreneurial Saturday evening dinner with Baybars and other entrepreneurial colleagues from eight countries, with the opportunity to learn a lot about how the business operates globally, how to turn your business into a franchise and expand it throughout the world, and how to persuade business angels to invest in your idea.
Baybars has highlighted the crucial role of mentality for business success, which is actually the most difficult thing to change. He also stressed that it’s more important having a healthy business model than a business plan. Baybars’ advice is to take calculated risks, rather than all-in risks where we invest just about everything we have in our idea. He proposes to earn first, and then invest money, mostly in marketing that is crucial for long-term success. Baybars pointed out that as long as we haven’t issued our first invoice, we are just wannapreneurs, and can call ourselves real entrepreneurs only when we have customers, which are the foundation of every business.
He stressed the importance of promoting ethics in global business, which is society’s common responsibility. When asked about the best investment, he replied that the best one to make is in oneself, and our business. He emphasized the importance of education on entrepreneurship, giving back to society by citing good examples of a number of countries where the state encourages and helps those who help entrepreneurs, business angels and others.
He also emphasized the importance of leadership, explaining that in every entrepreneurial venture comes a moment when the entrepreneur becomes a prisoner of their job. And then they should make a decisive choice, whether they want to continue, or rather want a new life by introducing better people than themselves to leadership positions.
The surprise that the organizers had prepared for participants were three pitches, and all three thrilled the audience and received valuable feedback from Baybars, who said all the ideas were great.
