For the second consecutive year Skittles will not be airing a TV spot during the Super Bowl, but the brand will still have a big marketing presence for the event.
The brand has namely organized a great stunt, a full fledged Broadway play called “Skittles Commercial: The Broadway Musical” that will have only one performance on Feb. 3, with a still unknown celebrity.
The writer is Pulitzer-finalist playwright Will Eno. Music and lyrics are from Drew Gasparini and Nathaniel Lawlor, and all are working with the agency DDB Worldwide on this stunt.
Tickets for the play run from $30 to $300, while all the proceeds going to charity, Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, with more money, up to $50,000, added by Mars Wrigley.
Super Bowl spots were recently a trend for Skittles. The colorful candy brand ran three consecutive big game ads from 2015 through 2017, but in 2018 the brand created a special blockbuster Super Bowl ad, just for one person.
