Project We Love Local, whose goal is promoting authentic local production, started with three individual agricultural producers. A month later, there are already seven, and there are already 80 products on the shelves of the Mercator shops in Borik and Ložionička Street. Soon there will be more, given the fact that new producers are joining in every day, and consumers’ interest testifies to the fact that these are great products. It is expected that by the end of September, the project could have 25 producers with over 200 of their products on the shelves.
Project We Love Local is a good example of co-operation between a retail chain and suppliers from the ranks of individual agricultural producers who need market support and good marketing.
“We are happy to expand our rich offer with top quality domestic products. I am sure that this cooperation will be of great help to small domestic producers who will get an attractive space in our market centers and an opportunity for quality placement of their products,” said Emir Zuhrić, Packaged Food Manager at Mercator BH.
“Not so long ago we launched a business called Greens d.o.o. We have recognized the need of a modern man for healthy food, rich in vitamins and beneficial substances for our organism. Thanks to Mercator and the We Love Local project, consumers have the opportunity to get acquainted with our products and enjoy their top quality, as well as the magical properties of our spice plants,” said Aldin Drnda, owner of Greens d.o.o.
“By fostering the tradition of healthy production and with great love for the food grown on the karst of Eastern Herzegovina, from where I come, we have teamed up with the EKO Life collaborative from Stolac so we produce food in our unpolluted fields – food that benefits from our mild Mediterranean climate. Thanks to Mercator’s project We Love Local, we have the opportunity to offer them to customers on special shelves of healthy food,” said Damir Radić from Eko life.
“Our product is raspberry. With our homemade raspberries grown in the surroundings of Rudo, we make great juices and syrups and we are especially proud of our biggest hit, and this is Malinada, a freshly made marmalade that is as healthy as if you are eating fresh raspberries. Like my colleagues and previous speakers, I am very happy to be involved in Mercator’s project, We Love Local, and we love the fact that thanks to this project we will have the opportunity to adequately market our product on the market,” said Nenad Ljubojević from the Agricultural Cooperative Uvac.
People in Mercator know how demanding the production which respects all the ecological principles is, and that’s why they greatly value the quality of food coming from small producers. They are building mutual trust and enabling the quality placement of their products. By choosing small local producers, Mercator contributes to the conservation of nature and the sustainable development of small businesses.
In addition to Greens d.o.o., Eko life and Uvac Agricultural Cooperative, who first joined the project We Love Local, today the project also includes the General Agricultural Cooperative Insieme from Bratunac, famous for the production of strawberries, and the General Cooperative AiDz which deals with production and sale of fruits and vegetables.
